A Weekend in Miami

Back in the fall of last year, I had the pleasure of having an impromptu trip to Miami to spend the holidays with family. Having only seen and heard the place through TV shows and print magazines, I only expected a few days of laying out on the beach or sipping frozen margaritas at a bar in South Beach. To my surprise, I discovered something else: more than a city of nightclubs and spring breakers, Miami is a growing hub of modern architecture, playful energy, and a vibrant atmosphere.

Hollywood suburbs. There is an air of ease as soon as you hit the streets of suburban Florida.

Bayside. Compared to the hustle and bustle of New York City, Miami has a playful kind of energy that is more laidback.

I loved seeing the colors, sights, and the salty air that surrounded the city as we walked by the bay around Downtown Miami. 

Freedom Tower.  A rare historic structure in a sea of modern buildings.

Art deco buildings line up the streets of South Beach, often bearing their names in geometric typefaces and bold colors.
